A former mayor and Citizen of the Year in Grand Falls-Windsor has passed away.
Paul Richard Hennessey passed away at the Lionel Kelland Hospice on Saturday at the age of 87.
Hennessey, a local businessman and a passionate supporter of the region, also chaired the Central Newfoundland Exploits Regional Services Board and the Forestry Capital of Canada Designation Committee.
The owner of Hennessey Real estate, he served as President of the Central Newfoundland Real Estate Board and was named an Honourary Life Member after his retirement.
A gifted musician, he initiated a Town Band that performed at local events and helped to establish the Exploits Valley Salmon Festival.
He was also involved in the Chamber of Commerce, the Knights of Columbus and the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception Parish Council.
The funeral will take place on Thursday at 11:00 from the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception.
