Suspended St. John’s city councillor Tom Davis is shedding more light on the incident which prompted a Code of Conduct complaint against him.
An investigation was launched and Davis was suspended for a month – with pay – at council last week, and will have to undergo sensitivity training.
Davis told VOCM Open Line with Callahan that the incident in question was not a “blow up” or an occasion when he “lost his cool.”
“There was a private conversation that was overheard where I was referencing a podcast I’d listened to, and unbeknownst to me, was a very sensitive subject for someone who overheard it. That was the catalyst that led to the investigation, and then they went through and interviewed people.”
“It’s interesting when you mention the ‘poisoned workplace’ reference, is that it was one of the allegations in the complaint and in the report, there’s a heading ‘Poisoned Workplace’ but underneath it, it says that I made people feel uncomfortable.”
Davis says he looks forward to his training and getting back to the business of representing the people of St. John’s and Ward 4.
