There’s an additional way to report some of the lesser crimes to the RNC – online.
The new reporting system, which is for a specific set of crimes, can be accessed by the public anytime, anywhere as long as the person filing the complaint has computer access.
Cst. Steph Myers of the RNC says it will streamline the system and create more efficiencies.
One of the more common complaints they handle is theft under $5000, “Or somebody has lost a wallet, theft from a motor vehicle but not theft of the vehicle itself, so if your car has been rummaged through, create a file online,” says Cst. Myers.
“For motor vehicle collisions you can do that as well and get the file number for insurance purposes, and fraud under $5,000.”
She says for other crimes, or crimes in progress, call 911 or 709-729-8000.
Cst. Myers says crimes reported through the online portal will be investigated the same way as those sent to police via the conventional methods.
