Triple Point Resources has registered its proposed Fischells Salt Dome Power Generation Project for environmental assessment.
Triple Point is proposing to construct and operate a renewable energy storage and generation facility in the Bay St. George area which will include a main facility with salt caverns, salt production, compressed air energy storage, and associated infrastructure.
The project will involve the development of one or more engineered underground salt caverns through a solution mining process.
The company says compressed air, which will be generated using available electricity, will be stored in the caverns and then released to drive turbines and generate electricity during periods of high demand.
Construction is planned to begin in 2028 and it’s hoped that the facility will be fully operational by 2031, with the potential to operate for the next 50 years.
The deadline for public comment is July 17th with the minister’s decision due by July 26th.
