The CEO of Marine Atlantic says the Industrial Relations Board will make a decision on Unifor’s application on whether to consider Marine Atlantic an essential service on July 6th.
Murray Hupman says they will be making their submissions on the situation to the board next week, and then the following Monday a decision will be made.
Meanwhile, on the collective bargaining front, Hupman says they are going into mediation with Unifor on Monday, and there is another mediation session scheduled for the end of July.
He dismisses the notion that Marine Atlantic has been dragging its heels through the negotiation process.
He says it is “just the way the process unfolds,” and that if there was a perfect formula to conduct negotiations these situations would never happen.
