The St. John’s SPCA begins the transition to their new facility today.
The new building, which is on East White Hills Road, is being heralded as a “major milestone for improving animal care and adoption services in the region.”
The facility offers expanded capacity, upgraded medical areas, and improved visitor access.
The move is expected to take five days, and the SPCA says the transition has been planned with the well-being of the animals in mind and to ensure there is no gap in services.
The current facility on RCAF road closes today and the move will take place until next Wednesday.
Donations can be dropped off to the new facility at that time. They expect that they will be able to accept animals under community programs, such as the Spay and Neuter Assistance Program, in August.
While the organization is moving to its new building, they say about $1.4-million is still needed to cover construction costs and are welcoming donations on that front.
An open house is planned for September.
