The mayor of Labrador City is concerned with the province’s ability to fight forest fires should another major blaze break out.
Jordan Brown says crews are still actively working to knock down fires in Labrador West.
A province-wide fire ban is in effect with continued hot and dry conditions.
Brown is concerned with the recent fires at Cochrane Pond and a major blaze in the capital city yesterday on Kenmount Road. His fear is that assets could be deployed to the island when the fire situation is still very active in Labrador.
“Any moron that’s getting out there, starting fires on purpose in woodland areas? What you’re doing is you’re hurting the rest of the province.”
“You’re diverting resources away from the fire that’s threatening my community, or threatening Wabush. This is unacceptable behaviour. This is why education is very important.”
