The provincial government is going to replace a key transportation link on the west coast.
The aging Ballam Bridge, which carries traffic over the Humber River via Route 440, has deteriorated to the point that it must be demolished in favour of a new structure.
Government says the bridge, which connects to Irishtown and Cox’s Cove, is essential as there is no alternative.
It hopes to call tenders in the fall and to begin work shortly thereafter.
The project has been filed with the environment department for its approval. The deadline for public comment is September 21.
