New government figures have been released showing the revenue generated by the local aquaculture industry.
The Newfoundland Aquaculture Industry Association says government numbers show that farmed fish and seafood contributed some $453 million to the provincial economy last year.
That represents nearly 40 per cent of the total value of all seafood in he province according to the association.
Executive director Bradley George says the data reinforces the importance of aquaculture to the province’s economy and food security.
NAIA is partnering with the Aquaculture Association of Canada for the annual Cold Harvest Conference and Trade Show at the Jag Hotel in St. John’s September 15-17.
