Summer is winding down, however there’s still lots of activity left when it comes to the cruise ship season.
Thousands of cruise passengers have dropped into the capital city so far this season with another 27 ships scheduled to dock between now and October.
Councillor Jill Bruce, the city’s lead on the cruise ship industry, says this year’s later arrivals are helping to bolster the province’s shoulder season.
“We used to think when summer is over – that’s it, we gear up for winter and it’s all done. Now, when we look at 27 arrivals left, that’s great business.” She says tour operators and local business see tremendous benefit from visitors in the late summer/early fall.
Bruce says the cruise ship industry in St. John’s benefits the entire region as many passengers will go on tours throughout the Avalon and spend in several communities.
