Bay St. George RCMP say they have identified the driver of a pickup that was caught on camera taking a daring, and unusual detour around a construction site on the Trans Canada Sunday morning.
The truck left the road and sped along a roadside ditch before rejoining the highway near White’s Road at the Stephenville exit.
RCMP thank the public for their help. Further updates will be provided when available.
Earlier story
The driver in a pickup truck must have thought they were doing a stunt out of The Dukes of Hazzard when they bypassed a construction site on the west coast, using the ditch as a makeshift roadway.
The incident happened just after 11:00 Sunday morning on the TCH near White’s Road at the Stephenville exit. The Department of Transportation and Infrastructure set up a marked construction zone to slow traffic as crews worked on the shoulder of the highway.
The red pickup truck (likely a Ford F-150) went through the ditch at a high rate of speed to pass the parked vehicle, re-entering the highway a few seconds later. Crews working at the scene also note that the truck knocked over a road sign.
A dashboard camera on a vehicle parked on the shoulder captured the risky manoeuvre.
Anyone who has information or saw a red pickup driving in a reckless or dangerous manner on the highway that morning is asked to contact Bay St. George RCMP.
