The Avalon Arena Association is celebrating it’s 50th anniversary this year.
The Association’s original facility, Twin Rinks, opened on Anthony Avenue on September 22nd, 1976. Today it is known as the Capital Mitsubishi Centre.
The idea for Twin Rinks was sparked by founder David Riche after a loss in a mainland hockey tournament, which the association says highlighted the need for more modern ice surfaces in the province.
Ice availability was expanded further in 2023 when the Capital Subaru Arena opened on Hebron Way.
Executive Director Justin Clark says 50 years is a “significant milestone,” and says the anniversary is about celebrating the community that has supported them over the last five decades.
