The MP for Labrador is sharing his condolences on the passing of a well-known and respected resident of Charlottetown.
Captain Tony Powell, who enjoyed a flying career that spanned more than half a century, passed away on Sunday at the age of 71.
He outlined his adventures and challenges – not the least of which was his stage 4 cancer diagnosis at the young age of 48, in a book titled “Against the Wind.”
Despite his illness, Powell ran for the Liberal Party against incumbent Lela Evans in the last provincial election.
MP Phillip Earle calls Power “one of those special” people “whose life reflected the very spirit of Labrador.”
Powell was the son of Benjamin Windsor Powell who founded the town of Charlottetown, and was the uncle of the MHA for Cartwright-L’Anse au Clair, Lisa (Powell) Dempster.
