The Newfoundland Regiment fell just short in a 7-5 loss to the Charlottetown Islanders Friday night at the Mary Brown’s Centre.
Damian Norris’ first career QMJHL goal opened the scoring 4:51 into the game before Matthew Frost put the Regiment up 2-0 before the midway mark of the first.
Then the floodgates opened and the visitors took over.
Benjamin Veitch scored with 42 seconds left to give the home team a shot, but the Isles sealed it with an empty net tally to hang on for a 7-5 victory.
Newfoundland and Charlottetown go again this afternoon in the rematch at 3pm.
