Newfoundland and Labrador Health Services says there are 88 trained sexual assault nurse examiners throughout the province.
Concerns were raised recently about the number of such nurses throughout the province who are readily available to respond when someone needs them. The claim says there were only two nurses available 24/7, with one stationed in St. John’s and the other in Corner Brook.
In a statement to VOCM News, NLHS says there are 88 active sexual assault nurse examiners across the province who are available across all health care zones.
It says all sites offer care for those who have experienced sexual violence, and “specialized care may be available locally.”
NLHS says expanding access to the specific education for registered nurses and nurse practitioners is an “ongoing priority” across the province.
