Premier Tony Wakeham has no intention of acceding to demand from two prominent Tories to pause the hydro deal with Quebec until such time as it can undergo an independent expert review.
Former Premier Brian Peckford and former Opposition Leader Ches Crosbie have written Premier asking for such a review, claiming that it falls short of the 2024 MOU under Andrew Furey.
In their letter, the two cite five reasons for justifying a pause and review, but Premier Wakeham sees the agreement as an improvement over the 2024 deal.
“I’m very proud of the deal, very proud of the negotiating team,” says the Premier.
“It’s a win, win, win. We’re delivering more power, more jobs, more value and this is an agreement which, at the end of the day, will benefit all Newfoundlanders and Labradorians.”
