The provincial government says “stay tuned” when it comes to an update on the Electoral Boundaries Commission.
The review has to be completed by the end of the year.
Deputy Premier Barry Petten indicated during Question Period that an update is coming soon on the appointment of a commission to conduct a review of the province’s electoral boundaries in response to questions from justice critic Pam Parsons.
Petten suggested that asking about something that will get done is a waste of time in the House of Assembly.
Opposition Leader John Hogan picked up the debate.
“We’ve asked about this in estimates, and in the House of Assembly, and the answer was ‘we will work on it expeditiously.’ Speaker, that was seven months ago. The Deputy Premier and Auditor General can’t write the Chief Justice in seven months, so I ask anyone, what are you doing?”
Deputy Premier Petten responded to the cheers of his caucus colleagues, “we’re working on safer communities, better health care, lower taxes, affordability, jobs, jobs, jobs….!”
