Investigations are underway following two separate incidents involving recent big game kills in which the carcasses were abandoned and wasted.
Enforcement officers with the Department of Forestry say the remains of a cow moose were found abandoned at the intersection of Kippens Ridge Resource Road and Penney’s Brook Road, approximately 10 km north of South Brook.
The incident occurred sometime between the evening of Monday, October 26th and the following morning.
Meanwhile, another investigation was launched after the carcasses of two female caribou were found this week in a farmer’s field just off the White River Resource Road in Cormack.
That incident is believed to have happened Monday Tuesday.
It’s against the law to allow wildlife kills to be destroyed, wasted or spoiled – carrying a fine of up to $25,000 or a jail term of up to three months.
The department says anyone with information in connection with the South Brook investigation is asked to call 709-292-4943. Anyone with information about the Cormack investigation can call 709-632-9285.
