Three Requests for Proposals have been issued to accommodate 75 people as the provincial government moves forward with plans to shut down transitional housing at Horizon’s 106 on Airport Blvd at the end of the year.
The province says it’s the latest step in shifting to what it calls a community supportive model.
NL Housing has met with 59 tenants currently staying at Horizons 106 to determine the supports they need.
Of those tenants, more than 10 people have been deemed ready for independent living, and have accepted placement in housing.
The remainder require various levels of ongoing supportive services.
NLHC says RFPs have been developed for three different levels of community-based support including a call for 30 units which will include one or two home support visits per week, 25 units with at least five support visits per week, and 20 units with dedicated staff for 24-hour, 7-day-a-week support.
Minister responsible, Joedy Wall says he’s confident that the RFPs will generate interest.
“We’ve had great conversations over the last number of months with our community partners” says Wall. “They’ve been doing this work for a long time, and I’m totally confident we’ll get sufficient response to our RFPs.”
Successful operators will also work with NLHC to conduct intake for others identified through the emergency shelter system.
The deadline for submissions for all three RFPs is September 14th.
