The Trans-Canada Highway east of Jack’s Pond near the Southern Harbour exit has reopened in both directions following a serious two-vehicle collision earlier today.
RCMP is thanking travellers for their patience during the lengthy closure.
Drivers are being asked to use caution while travelling through the area this evening, as some sections of the roadway may still be slippery.
Police are also reminding travellers to slow down and adjust their driving for rainy conditions to reduce the risk of hydroplaning.

The Trans-Canada Highway east of Jack’s Pond remains closed as emergency responders continue to work at the scene of a serious two-vehicle collision.
There are no detours available, and drivers are being asked to avoid the area and delay travel if possible.
RCMP are also reminding the public that 911 is for emergencies only. Police are asking people not to call 911 for information on road closures, noting that non-emergency calls can affect emergency response and resources.
Traffic remains backed up for a considerable distance.

There is heavy water buildup on the roads, and thick fog in the area which is reducing visibility.
Expect delays until the scene is cleared.
There is no immediate word on possible injuries.

A two vehicle accident has just occurred on the Trans Canada about 10-12 km east of Goobies, between Goobies and Chance Cove.
Traffic is backing up in the area near the Doe Hills.
It’s foggy and raining in the area.
