The people who will be involved in the designing, building and supplying the hydro projects in Labrador like what’s on the horizon if the agreement passes all the hurdles.
Energy NL says its members have the experience and expertise required for the megaprojects, including Gull Island, which unto itself will create about 5,000 jobs.
Charlene Johnson, the CEO of Energy NL, likes the commitment to have a procurement office in this province so that local companies can avail of the opportunities.
She says industry in this province will be involved in virtually all aspects of the hydro development – everything from pouring concrete to supplying materials.
“…the construction, the fabrication, the engineering. And then once the project is built, there’s opportunity for operation and maintenance. As well we have members involved in catering and supplying legal services. It will be a lot of work and we are ready,” says Johnson.
