Trident Construction has been awarded a $23.47 million contract to replace the old Canning Bridge in Marystown.
The span was closed to traffic in February of 2023 due to serious structural issues, effectively cutting Marystown in two.
Trident was also awarded a $5.7 million contract earlier this year to install a Bailey bridge as a temporary fix while work on a replacement span gets underway.
The new contract includes the construction of a new two-span concrete bridge, a new long-span underpass at Ville Marie Drive, road reconstruction, sidewalks, improvements to the drainage system, and retaining walls.
Government says the project is expected to be “substantially completed” by August of 2028.
