The town of Lewisporte has been gifted a piece of the World Trade Center ahead of the 25th anniversary of the terrorist attacks in New York.
The town was one of many to open their doors to stranded airline passengers when American airspace was shut down.
Chief Rob Fudge and firefighter Stephen Cole were two of many people who answered the call when 38 aircraft were forced to land in Gander.
According to a social media post by Lewisporte Regional Fire-Rescue, on Tuesday the two firefighters were on hand to receive a framed piece of steel recovered from the rubble of the World Trade Centre in New York. It was delivered by American paramedic and firefighter Garrett Shield, a board member of the group Pay it Forward 9/11.
Lewisporte Regional Fire-Rescue says it was a “very proud and emotional moment” for the two members.
