The federal minister of industry believes the Churchill Falls deal with Hydro-Québec will go ahead after the separatist Parti Québécois won their election last night.
The PQ formed a minority government, with the governing CAQ being wiped off the map.
Premier-elect Paul St-Pierre Plamondon has stated that he will look at the deal and bring it back to the Quebec legislature for a vote.
Mélanie Joly believes the deal is good for both sides, citing the need for more electricity in our neighbouring province.
“When it comes to Churchill Falls, it is the biggest investment in clean energy in the entire history of North America,” she told reporters in Ottawa.
“It is also in the interest of the government of Quebec, because it will also allow more power to develop the economic potential of different industries in Quebec.”
