The Premier says he’s confident in the future of Bay du Nord with Shell’s new 30 per cent stake in the project.
BP pulled out of Bay du Nord in July, leaving Norway-based Equinor as the sole investor in the deep-water field.
Shell, a new entry to the Newfoundland offshore, has since stepped in.
Tony Wakeham believes Shell’s involvement is good for the project.
“I think that’s a very positive reflection on all of that. That this project is drawing attention all around the world,” he told reporters on Friday.
“You’re seeing interest from major players in our offshore oil and gas (sector) that haven’t been here before. That’s reflected in the number of conferences I’ve attended. There’s a renewed interest.”
