The province has issued a new RFP to procure two bird dog aircraft to help fight wildfires.
A bird dog is a small aircraft that flies out ahead of water bombers to help direct and coordinate the firefighting effort.
It also helps to control air traffic in airspace surrounding a wildfire, and can pick up and deliver crews and equipment to sites around the province.
The latest RFP replaces a previous one.
According to government it includes a broader range of aircraft criteria to “encourage more bidders” and “ensure the most suitable and cost-effective aircraft are selected.”
