The recent release of gas on the poop deck of the Terra Nova FPSO is under review by the province’s offshore regulator.
While the October 9th incident sounds like a punch line, it was serious in nature, triggering a General Platform Alarm, forcing onboard personnel to muster as all affected work areas were secured.
The emergency response fire team surveyed the affected area and confirmed there was no more gas detected.
The C-NLOER says the incident resulted in the release of 450 kg of hydrocarbon gas.
No injuries or equipment damage was reported, and no personnel were in the affected area at the time.
Suncor has launched an investigation into the cause of the gas release and the C-NLOER is monitoring.
