The minister of infrastructure admonished the MHA for Virginia Waters on questions asked in the House of Assembly surrounding a shortage of custodial staff in certain schools.
Bernard Davis claims some schools have been more than two months without adequate maintenance staff to keep the buildings clean.
“These schools are now entering the third month without adequate custodial staff. Is this the standard of maintenance (that) the families, staff and students should become accustomed to under this government?” asked Davis.
Minister Barry Petten invited the MHA to contact his office and give him a list of affected schools, but took exception to the questions being raised in the House of Assembly when he didn’t have adequate information on the issue.
“Email me, call me, talk to me in the House, no issue whatsoever. Schools should not be dirty. We shouldn’t be short-staffed. Sometimes that happens, but it’s not acceptable. I’m not condoning it, but I can’t be blindsided here in the House of Assembly when I know nothing about this issue. But I will…endeavor to fix it. But getting on your feet in the House of Assembly, and playing politics, and trying to get a ‘gotcha’ moment? It don’t cut it with me.”
