The Deputy Mayor of Mount Pearl has resigned from council.
Nicole Kieley says the decision to step down was made after “much reflection” and not easily done.
In a lengthy post on Facebook this morning, Kieley, who was on a leave of absence, says she had hoped that some time off would allow her to “recover and find balance” but says she’s since come to learn that healing doesn’t follow a schedule.
Mayor Dave Aker calls Kieley a “loyal champion” for the community and he’s grateful for her contributions to council and the residents of Mount Pearl.
Kieley lost a leg and suffered other serious injuries after an SUV ran through the front of Shoppers Drug Mart on LeMarchant Road in May of 2023, pinning her underneath the vehicle.
Kieley says her decision to step away is not a reflection of her ability to lead or her dedication to public service, but says she needs to prioritize her health, family and well-being at this time.
