The MHA for Harbour Grace-Port de Grave says a whale carcass that’s washed up onto the beach in Back Cove, Spaniard’s Bay is drawing a crowd.
Pam Parsons is urging people to keep their distance from the dead animal, and is asking drivers to keep safety top of mind with increased traffic in the area.
In the meantime, Parsons has discussed the issue with town officials who are in the process of finding a contractor to remove the remains.
She says removal is the town’s responsibility, but she’s directed the municipality to funds available to help deal with the unwelcome situation.
There is a Special Assistance Program available through Municipal and Provincial Affairs and she’s encouraged the town to apply. She says the town is working on getting the carcass removed “as soon as possible.”
